Raquel M R Thomas
Raquel M R Thomas is an award winning and GLAAD nominated screenwriter, director, and producer. Raquel loves community and being a servant within disadvantaged communities. A native of Columbia, South Carolina, and a former high school athlete turned collegiate athletic scholar; Raquel’s first love was basketball. She lettered in 4 sports at Dreher High School to include: basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track & field. Raquel graduated from Virginia State University with a degree in Business Marketing, earned a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus and a certificate from New York University in Film and TV.
Raquel launched her production company Dream Catchers Productions in 2020. Raquel wrote, produced and directed her first stage play Defining Measures in 2021. Defining Measures the stage play went on a five show tour in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia yielding her great success. In conjunction with her debut stage play she produced and released her first musical single from Defining Measures, the stage play called “God Rescued Me”. Following the stage play Raquel independently created and produced several short films. In 2022 Raquel created and directed TRANSworld Atlanta, a reality documentary series that tells the stories of transgender men, women, and those identifying as non-binary. Since the filming of TRANSworld Atlanta she has focused on educating communities, supporting health awareness, and allowing the cast of TRANSworld a safe place to tell their authentic stories. TRANSworld Atlanta is currently streaming on Tubi and Amazon Prime. Raquel is the creator, director, producer, and writer of Below the Rim (streaming on Tubi, Apple TV, and Roku) and Deception Rules (streaming on Amazon Prime). She has a new film coming to streaming networks called “PASTOR” this Fall and TRANSworld Atlanta Season 2 in post-production with a release date of Winter of 2024.
Raquel is the author of eight published books and she has been recognized by film festivals throughout the country for her work to include the Essence Film Festival for both her screenwriting and filmmaking projects. She has projects for film and TV that she is actively writing and pushing out to the world. Raquel doesn’t currently have representation in the industry but this has not stopped her from creating new films and writing.
